This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, process and protect personal data of our clients and website visitors. By using this website and prividing us with your data, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

This Policy is issued by IPnovus, a law firm comprising IPnovus LLC, a limited liability partnership registered in Russia, and „Novus intellectus“, a professional partnership of advocates registered in Lithuania (together referred to as “IPnovus”).

Collection of personal data

We may collect personal data about you: (i) directly from you (e.g., when you contact us); (ii) in the course of our relationship with you (e.g., if we provide you with legal advice); (iii) when you make your personal data public (e.g., if you make a public post on social media); (iv) when you visit our website; (v) from the third parties (e.g., public registers, law enforcement agecies, and etc.).

Purposes and legal bases for processing your personal data

Legal bases for processing your personal data are as follows:

  • any contract that you have entered into with us, or any steps taken prior  to entering into a contract with us;
  • your prior consent (used only in relation to data processing that is entirely voluntary and not used for data processing that is necessary or obligatory);
  • persuing our legitimate interests (e.g., to provide services to our clients, to administer our website, and etc.);
  • compliance with the obligations imposed on us by legislation.

Categories of personal data we may process:

  • Personal data: name, surname, photograph, job title.
  • Demographic information: gender, nationality, date of birth.
  • Identifier information: passport or national identity number.
  • Contact details: residential address, telephone number(s), email address(es).
  • Matter details: personal data included in correspondence, transaction documents, evidence or other materials that we process in the course of performance of legal services agreement with you.
  • Payment details: billing address, bank account number, name of account holder, invoice records,  payment records, SWIFT details, IBAN details, payment amount and date.
  • Data relating to our website: device type, operating system, browser type, browser settings, IP address, language settings, dates and times of connecting to a site, usage data, aggregate statistical information.
  • Other data we collect from legitimate sources in provision of legal services.

Where we need to process your sensitive personal data (e.g. trade union membership, health data, etc.) for a legitimate purpose, we do so in compliance with applicable law.

Processing of personal data

We shall take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal data are kept accurate and up-to-date and are erased or rectified immediately when we become aware of inaccuracies.

In these cases data will be processed in order to answer your query and persue our legitimate interests.

Disclosure of your personal data to third parties

We may disclose your personal data to: (i) legal and regulatory authorities (upon their request or reporting suspected breach of applicable law); (ii) our external advisors (accountants, auditors, lawyers, etc. subject to confidentiality undertaking under agreements with them); (iii) our processors, i.e. any person or entity that processes personal data on our behalf (providers of data hosting services, providers of software support and development services, providers of information technology infrastructure services and other service providers, subject to contractual security and confidentiality undertakings as well as requirements under applicable law); (iv) any party as needed in connection with legal proceedings (court, law enforcement agency or relevant party to proceedings to the extent necessary for defence or implementation of legal rights).

International transfer of personal data

We may need to transfer your personal data to recipients in other countries (i.e. other IPnovus entity or data procesor outside the EEA) for the purposes set out in this Policy. Where we transfer personal data from the EEA to a recipient outside the EEA that does not provide for an adequate level of protection of personal data, we will do so on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses adopted by the European Commission for the purpose of transferring data outside of the EEA.

Data retention

Your personal data shall be processed only for the minimum period necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy, unless applicable law requires a longer retention period. Longer retention may take place when: (i) there is a reasonable susposion of an unlawful act that is being investigated; (ii) to defend from claims or actions initiated against us; (iii) for backup copies; (iv) in other cases requested by law.

Your personal data will be destroyed within a reasonable time upon expiry of the retention period.

Legal rights of data subjects

You have a number of rights in respect of our processing of your personal data, including:

  • the right of access to your personal data and the right to be informed regarding the nature, processing and disclosure of those data;
  • the right to request rectification of any inaccuracies in your personal data;
  • the right to request, on legitimate grounds, erasure of your personal data or restriction of processing of your personal data;
  • the right to demand to transfer your personal data to another controller or provide those data directly to you in a convenient form (applicable to that personal data that you submitted and that is processed by automated means on the basis of the agreement or consent);
  • the right to object to processing of your personal data if data are processed on the basis of a legitimate interest pursued by us, unless there are compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which overide the interests, rights and freedoms of the data subject, or for the establishment, exercise and defence of legal claims;
  • where we process your personal data on the basis of your consent, the right at any time to withdraw that consent.


We may require proof of your identity before we can give effect to these rights.

If you are of the opinion that your personal data is being processed illegally or in violation of your rights, you have the right to file a complaint with a Data Protection Authority regarding the processing of your personal data. In any case we recommend to refer to us first for an amicable settlement of the matter.
